Transferring Ownership
Workspace ownership comes with billing rights, deletion rights, and the ability to make any other Admin. Transfer it deliberately.
Overview
Every workspace has exactly one Owner — the original creator by default. The Owner is the only person who can transfer ownership, delete the workspace, or change the billing email of record. Transfers are permanent (but the previous owner stays an Admin).
Acme Co. to confirm:What transfers
Billing responsibility
The new Owner becomes the billing contact. They'll need to add or update payment method within 14 days.
Deletion authority
Only the Owner can delete the workspace. The previous owner loses this power.
Crown badge
The Owner shows a small crown next to their name in the members list.
Admin access (both)
The previous Owner stays an Admin by default — they keep nearly all powers except billing and deletion.
How to transfer
Open Settings → General
You must be the current Owner. Admins see the option but it's disabled.
Scroll to "Transfer ownership"
Near the bottom of the page, paired with "Delete workspace" — these are the most sensitive controls.
Pick the new Owner
Only existing Admins are eligible. If your target isn't an Admin yet, promote them first.
Type the workspace name to confirm
A safety check — match the workspace name exactly. Prevents accidental transfers.
Confirm
Both parties get a notification email immediately. The change is irreversible — only the new Owner can transfer it back.
After the transfer
You stay an Admin
You don't lose access — you just lose the Owner-only powers. The new Owner can change your role if they choose.
Update billing
The new Owner gets a banner prompting them to update payment method within 14 days.
Audit log records it
Every workspace keeps a permanent log of ownership transfers — who, when, and from whom.
Can re-transfer
The new Owner can transfer it back, or to a third party, anytime — same flow.
